Azerbaijani street baller tests his strength at Red Bull King of Rock-2013 final edition in San Francisco
Baku, October 4 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani national winner of “Red Bull King of the Rock-2013 tourney” Amil Hamzayev has competed in the tournament`s final edition in San Francisco.
Red Bull cans and street basketball players return to Alcatraz, San Francisco, for the fourth and final edition of the one-on-one King of the Rock tournament hosted this time by Los Angeles Clippers All-Star forward Blake Griffin.
The championship brought together 64 strongest street basketball players who had one goal - is to be crowned Red Bull King of the Rock.
“It doesn’t get any more street ball than this,” said All-Star forward Blake Griffin. “Guys talk about Prison ball. This is Prison Ball at it’s finest. The atmosphere, you just look up and see Alcatraz. There’s no escaping this, so it’s pretty awesome.”
Los Angeles qualifier winner Tarron “The Beast” Williams beat Spain`s champion Sergio De La Fuente in the final to claim a title and $20,000 prize.
Williams, 37, played at CSU San Bernadino from 1998-1999 and is a veteran of several professional leagues. The 6-7, 235-pound swingman most recently suited up for the Los Angeles Lightning of the IBA while also maintaining a presence in the Venice Basketball League.
It has been 50 years since Alcatraz was home to America`s most notorious criminals. This year, for the fourth and final time, sixty-four of the toughest international street ballers gathered on one of the world`s most iconic and recognizable locations for the Red Bull King of the Rock Finals before the one-on-one basketball competition heads to Taiwan in 2014 and return to Alcatraz in 2015 continuing to alternate between the islands going forward.
