AZERI-TURKISH RELATIONS TO DEVELOP PERSISTENTLY
Having greeted the guest, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Parliament said Turkey was the first state to recognize state sovereignty of Azerbaijan and render assistance. Development of ties with the fraternal Turkey is especially necessary for us, he underlined. The nationwide leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev paid great attention to their development. The aphorism “one nation, two states” told by him is of huge significance for the people of Azerbaijan.
Then, the Speaker told of reciprocal visits of the heads of state, of the role of over 500 documents signed during these visits on bilateral cooperation in the field of economy, policy, culture, science and education, health and others. Mr. Asadov especially noted the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas main projects.
Azerbaijani parliamentarians effectively cooperate with the Turkish Members of Parliament at UN, NATO PA, PACE, OSCE PA and other international organizations, he stressed. Speaking of parliamentarian links between two countries, Ogtay Asadov said the Friendship Groups function in both parliaments and “we aspire to broaden cooperation activities with the parliamentarians of the fraternal country”.
Turan Morali expressed gratitude for cordial reception, congratulated Ogtay Asadov on his election as the Chairman of Azerbaijan Parliament. ‘Turkey is interested in all-round relations with Azerbaijan. Recently a Turkish delegation comprising diplomats, state, government and MPs will arrive in Azerbaijan’, he said. ‘We understand the problems of Azerbaijan as well. 2006 will be the turning point in settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Turkey wants settlement of this problem in the frame of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,’ he noted.
At the meeting, also was focused a number of other questions of mutual interest.
