Baku hosts conference “The role of civil society and media in Azerbaijan-EU relations”
Baku, December 3 (AZERTAC). A conference “The role of civil society and media in Azerbaijan-EU relations” has been held here as part of the Security Forum of the Southern Caucasus.
Addressing the event, Head of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung`s Regional Program on Southern Caucasus, Katja Christina Plate said civil society had explicitly been engaged in the EU`s Eastern Partnership Program through the Civil Society Forum. She noted one of the main tasks of the civil society was to monitor the developments of the relationship between the EU and Eastern Partnership member states. Katja Christina Plate added various non-governmental organizations of Azerbaijan were engaged in this process.
Katja Christina Plate also pointed out the EU plans to carry out two projects on democracy in secondary schools in Azerbaijan worth € 1, 8 million. The first project called “Democracy starts with you” is expected to be carried out on December this year.
Other speakers in the conference said media plays an important role in communicating about European integration to a broad public. They noted media could put forward new proposals to develop relations between Eastern Partnership member states and EU.
