BAKU HOSTS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE TO MARK 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF CONSTITUTIONAL COURT OF AZERBAIJAN
The international conference on execution of Constitutional Court`s decisions was co-organized by the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and Venice Commission in Baku on Monday to mark the 10th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan.
Chief of Presidential Administration`s department for working with law-enforcement bodies Fuad Alasgarov opened the conference by reading out President Ilham Aliyev`s congratulatory letter on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Constitutional Court.
Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan Farhad Abdullayev reported on the history of the Court and its role in the state system.
Abdullayev pointed out that economic growth in Azerbaijan created a basis for serious institutional and judicial reforms and development of social and legal values. The constitution adopted in 1995 has opened up opportunities for building the legal state, civil society, he noted.
Abdullayev stressed that the Court improved its activity to protect human rights and freedoms and apply the case law of the European Court of Human Rights.
Speaking at the conference were First Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis Ziyafet Asgarov, Secretary of the CoE Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio, GTZ Project Manager Thomas Herman.
After the reports were heard, Farhad Abdullayev thanked the participants for their activity.
