Greeting the guests, Artur Rasizadeh expressed gratitude to the members of Georgian delegation revering memory of the prominent statesman, nationwide leader of Azerbaijani people, President Heydar Aliyev. He reminded that for participation at the ceremony of funerals of Heydar Aliyev, in Baku has arrived a great delegation from Georgia. On the same day, ex-President of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze and Acting President of Georgia Nino Burjanadze and other officials of this country took part at the farewell ceremony.
“Azerbaijan attentively watches the events happening in the fraternal Georgia, and this comes from the particular relations between the two peoples, for centuries living in friendship and good neighborhood”, the Prime Minister stated.
The policy of mutual understanding and cooperation, established in the time of President Heydar Aliyev, will remain unchanged, and the Georgian side can assure that it will be continued, Mr. Rasizadeh underlined. Azerbaijan is keen that Georgia was a democratic, prosperous country, because stability in the region depends on it.
Speaking of the ongoing economic reforms in the Country, on the growing GDP that made up in eleven months current year 10,9 percent, Artur Rasizadeh noted that the key problem of Azerbaijan is the still unsolved Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict, occupation by the Armenian armed forces of the 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands, as a result of which one million of the citizens of Azerbaijan have become refugees and internally displaced people in the own lands.
Intractability of the Armenian side in the cause of fair resolution to the problem damages further successful development of Azerbaijan and the region in the whole.
Expressing his gratitude for warm reception, the state minister of Georgia Zurab Zhvania noted that he regrets for objective reasons to participate at the ceremony of funerals of president Heydar Aliyev.
Speaking of the role of Heydar Aliyev in development of the Azerbaijani-Georgian relations, he stated that Heydar Aliyev played not less role in establishment of the independent Georgia. Besides, together with Eduard Shevardnadze he laid a new foundation of the relations between the two countries, the Minister stressed.
Touching upon the existing regional conflicts, Mr. Zurab Zhvania noted that their suspense really impedes development of the region.
The reception was attended by deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Eyyub Yagubov, foreign minister of Georgia Tedo Japaridze, ambassador of Georgia to Azerbaijan Zurab Gumberidze, other officials.
