CAIRO AND U.S. EMBASSY REFUTE REPORTS
Sources in the League of Arab States and the Embassy of the United States in Cairo has disproved the recent reports on alleged U.S.’ attempt to gain standing observer status in that organization. The U.S. diplomatic mission’s officer said, although America has a great respect for the League of Arab States, it does not try to join it. Ahmad Ben Hilli, the Political Adviser of the League’s Secretary General said Turkey, Iran, Eritrea ans Ethiopia want to join the organization in standing observer capacity. Their requests, according to him, will be considered during the League’s next conference in Cairo. Excluding closed meetings, the mentioned countries will be granted suffrage at various levels.
