CEC HOLDS REGULAR MEETING
Discussed was the question on results of the checks carried out by the Central Election Commission in connection with repeated elections in some municipalities in the Azerbaijan Republic. Speaking on the question, the Secretary of Commission Natig Mammadov has noted, final reports and other election documents of the district and local election commissions, and also the references received by Central Election Commission have been considered in the term stipulated by the law. Under the offer of the Secretary of the Commission, results of elections in 21 of 940 stations, where elections have been conducted, were considered invalid.
Then, Chairmen of the Central Election Commission has informed on conducting of election, as a whole, according to requirements of the law, of 1901 members of municipality on 600 municipalities. He has noted, that, short of some fine infringements of the law, it is possible to recognize results satisfactory. Democratic and fair elections have been conducted. The overwhelming majority of the subordinate election commissions have adequately coped with the problems. The quiet political atmosphere after elections also confirms, that present elections, not including some fine infringements, as a whole, were transparent. Besides, during elections there were not registered facts of intervention of representatives of executive structures and law enforcement bodies in election process. Having emphasized importance of legislative base for carrying out of democratic elections, Chairman of the Commission ascertained, that in this sense the Election Code and corresponding decree of the Azerbaijan President, and the existing democratic election standards are of exclusive importance. He has noted that the political will of the country leaders and stability are one of the basic conditions for carrying out of democratic elections, and has expressed to the head of state gratitude for measures taken in this area. Chairman of the Central Election Commission also has thanked the state structures and the mass media, which has assisted elections.
