CLOSE CONTACTS WITH US FRONTIER SERVICES ESTABLISHED
The United States technical aid to Azerbaijan Frontier Service considerably expands security possibilities to defend the Caspian oil and gas fields. According to head of State Frontier Services, lieutenant-general Elchin Guliyev, for the last 3 years, close contacts as to protection of Azerbaijani borders have been established with the US Coastguard Department. Within the program “Export Control and Combat against Proliferation of Components for the Weapons of Mass destruction”, vital measures aimed at protecting borders have been taken. Thus, 2 cutters were given in 2001, while this year - one refurbished patrol boat equipped with new engine and modern communication facilities.
