COMMEMORATİVE CEREMONY TO MARK MARCH 31 - DAY OF GENOCIDE OF AZERBAIJANIS HELD IN UKRAINE
Azerbaijani Embassy in Ukraine held a ceremony on Monday in commemoration of the March 31 - Azerbaijanis Genocide Day in the Ukraine-based library named after Samed Vurgun, with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Talat Aliyev, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Ukraine spoke about the history of genocide acts against Azerbaijanis committed by Armenians and their supporters.
The Ambassador noted “as a result of the aggressive policy of Armenians over two million Azerbaijanis suffered genocide in the 20th century”.
“Under the decree of March 26, 1998 signed by nationwide leader of Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev, every year March 31 commemorates Azerbaijanis Genocide Day at the state level”, Mr. Aliyev emphasized.
The Ambassador assessed the adoption of the resolution entitled “The situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan” at the UN General Assembly’s 62nd session as a victory of Azerbaijan`s diplomacy.
Mr. Aliyev called on Azerbaijani compatriots to unite closely around President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in the struggle for the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The text of an appeal addressed to the OSCE was read out in the ceremony. The appeal called for the international community to recognize the genocide against Azerbaijanis, punish Armenians, ensure settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh based on international law and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
The Azerbaijani Ambassador proposed to dispatch this document to the Supreme Rada of Ukraine, diplomatic missions of UN, EU, OSCE in Kiev and other organizations.
