COMMUNICATION TRANSIT CAPABILITIES OF AZERBAIJAN IN SPOTLIGHT
Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov told AzerTAj correspondent that Azerbaijan uses all the transit communication capabilities. Because of the high transit costs only 5 percent of fiber-optic highway capacity in the North, South and West directions are used now. Azerbaijan tried many times to use all the transit capacities. Azerbaijan applied to Turkmenistan for an agreement on laying Caspian underwater line passing from Shankhai to Frankfurt.
However, this agreement was not concluded. At present, Azerbaijan holds negotiations with Kazakhstan. This project is to be realized through the line Siyazan-Aktau line. Due to which, most information will go from Europe to Asia through Azerbaijan and transit capacity of Azerbaijan will increase by 30 percent.
According to the minister, transit costs of the minute of information come to 10 cents. About $10-15 million may go to the budget of Azerbaijan in the first period. information exchange between Europe and Asia is rising.
