CONFERENCE ON AZERBAIJAN`S EURO-ATLANTIC INTEGRATION AND DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS WRAPPED UP IN BAKU
The international conference on Azerbaijan`s Euro-Atlantic integration and democratic elections wrapped up in Baku on June 25.
The conference aimed to study the role of democratic elections in Azerbaijan`s Euro-Atlantic integration process, and prospects for the NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation.
The event participants heard reports on the Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation and duties stemming from the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), role of democratic elections in the Euro-Atlantic integration process, defense and security cooperation and other issues.
Faig Gurbanov, Azerbaijan Justice Ministry`s official, said Euro-Atlantic integration was Azerbaijan`s strategic aim.
Hikmat Hajiyev, Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry`s official noted that his country was one of the important countries for Europe due to its economic potential. He stressed that NATO attaches special importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan, adding that Baku`s hosting the conference is an evidence of this.
The conference highlighted the fact that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains unresolved, and this impedes the region`s development and threatens the international peace.
Speaking at the event, a NATO expert said Azerbaijan`s political, economic development, as well as its stability was very important for NATO.
The conference brought together more than hundred international experts and lawyers, foreign ambassadors accredited in Baku, government officials, representatives from non-governmental organizations and others.
