CONTESTS ON HUMAN RIGHTS COMPLETED
According to the Ombudsman’s office, E. Suleymanova noted that UN Secretary General Kofi Annan had sent an appeal to the world community calling on the progressive people, law defenders to protect and ensure human rights and freedoms.
She reported on the UNDP-financed contest of children’s pictures entitled “I and my rights” and traditional contest of journalistic articles entitled “Protection of Human Rights”, awarding of the best pictures and articles. E. Suleymanova stressed that a talented generation is rising in Azerbaijan and 444 pictures of young painters representing Azerbaijani network “World from child to child” and children of refugees, IDPs and disabled children aged 5-18 are exhibited in the UN main building and dedicated to the special session of the General Assembly on children.
Leader of UNICEF office in Azerbaijan Akif Saatchioglu highly appreciated Ombudsman’s activity towards protection of human rights, and contests conducted by her and noted that such events play a vital role in legal enlightenment of the population including children.
Finally, the names of winners of both contests were announced.
