COP29 achieves milestone on opening day

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) achieved its first milestone on the opening day with the signing of the initial agreement. Nations approved new UN standards for international carbon markets enabling countries to trade high-quality carbon credits to help meet climate targets.
Experts said the decision would pave the way to a long-sought UN-backed market trading in high-quality credits.
This agreement reached at Baku-hosted COP29 would considerably contribute to sustainable climate change action.
