COURSE OF REFORMS IN AGRICULTURE DISCUSSED
This program was discussed on November 20 in the meeting with the executive WB representative for Central and Eastern Europe countries and Central Asia Chitendro Srivastov at the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
President of the National Academy of Sciences, academician Mahmud Karimov told of the network and activity of not only NAS institutions but also the ones subordinated to the ministries and committees engaged in researches.
Milli Majlis deputy, chairman of the agriculture researches, academician Jalal Aliyev dwelt upon the positive results of cooperation with international organizations within the framework of the “Program of Competitive Grants and Science System Reforms” in development of the agrarian sector of Azerbaijan. He said that WB assists Azerbaijan by allotting large grants. To use grants effectively and organize the agrarian science in Azerbaijan Azerbaijan was visited by not only the specialists of SIMMIT, ICARDA but also WB delegation led by Chitendra Srivastaroy to assist in program’s implementation. During the conversation, Jalal Aliyev thanked the WB management for support.
Mr. Chitendra Srivastava said that he closely familiarized himself with 42 projects being implemented in Azerbaijan. He noted the role of competitive grants program towards sustaining the landowners in Azerbaijan and stressed services of the chairman of the Council of Agriculture Researches, Academician Jalal Aliyev in the program’s realization.
The meeting participants also exchanged views on strategy of modernization of the national system of agriculture researches. Proposals on complete modernization were put forward at the meeting attended by famous scientists, leaders of ministries, committees and other bodies. An issue of reforming of agricultural institutions under certain ministries was also discussed.
