Crocodile blamed for Congo air crash

Baku, October 22 (AZERTAC). A smuggled crocodile hidden in a passenger`s duffel bag escaped in flight and set of a panic that caused the plane to crash in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The crocodile "went berserk aboard the flight." That led to a stampede of terrified passengers toward the cockpit that caused the small aircraft to lose balance and crash.

Only one person survived the crash, which claimed the lives of 20 others on board what the London Telegraph describes as "a Czech-made Let L-410 Turbolet."

Ironically the crocodile also survived the crash but was later killed with a machete by rescuers sifting through the wreckage.

The reports say the incident happened Aug. 25 on a flight from the Congolese capital of Kinshasa to a regional airport at Bandundu.

However, despite the reports from MSNBC and the British papers, The Aviation Herald -- a publication that tracks aviation-related accidents and incidents -- says in an Aug. 28 post on its website that the plane did suffer a balance problem, but not because of a crocodile.
