DECISIONS OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS ARE BASIS FOR SETTLEMENT OF NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT, AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT
Baku, July 7 (AZERTAC). Decisions of International organizations are a basis for the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, President Ilham Aliyev has said during a meeting with representatives of the Nagorno-Karabakh`s Azerbaijani community. The Azerbaijani leader said the decisions and resolutions of international organizations on the problem were of “great” importance.
“Sometimes, people can think that the resolutions are adopted, Azerbaijan delivers its fair position to the world community at international forums, but the conflict has not yet found its solution. This is true. But, at the same time, the decisions of the international organizations are a basis for the conflict`s resolution. These are a basis for solution of the conflict by any means,” President Ilham Aliyev said.
The head of State said activities of the United Nations and other organizations are based on justice, democracy and legal norms, noting solution of the conflict by any ways must be grounded on international legal norms.
“If Azerbaijan sees that it can not reach the settlement through peace process, that there is no hope for it, and if Azerbaijan chooses the way of war, then international legal norms support our position even in this case, as the 51st article of the United Nations clearly states that every country has a right to protect itself,” the President said.
He said Azerbaijan wanted to solve the problem peacefully, adding “we want to restore our territorial integrity through talks”.
