DRAFT FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR GEORGIAN STRETCH OF BTK RAILWAY PRESENTED
Presentation of the draft feasibility study for the Georgian stretch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway prepared by the Turkey’s “Yuksel Domanic” company took place in Tbilisi, Transport Ministry reported.
Representatives of the Azerbaijan’s Transport Ministry participated in the presentation of the 29-km railway project. Azerbaijani experts will express their opinion on the project within the next 15 days. Afterwards, a tender to select the contractor will be announced.
Azerbaijan will lend $50 million to fund the project. The tender will define how the loan tranche will be spent. Documentation for the BTK railway project has been completed. The materials for construction will have been acquired by the winter of this year.
The final document on building the BTK railway was signed by Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey in February this year. Azerbaijan allotted a soft $200 million loan at 1 percent interest rate to Georgia to build the Georgian section of the railway.
