E-Camouflage could create invisible army tanks

Baku, January 18 (AZERTAC). Military researchers in the UK are reportedly working on invisible tank technology that could make its battlefield debut in around 2015.

So-called `Stealth tanks` are being developed by BAE Systems workers that incorporate what`s referred to as `e-camouflage`. This camouflage features an electronic type of ink that allows the tanks to effectively disappear into the background and, once deployed, such tactics could change the face of warfare.

The tanks would boast sensors that grab images of the environmental features around them and display them on the tanks` exterior, so essentially merging the tanks and the backdrop into one. These displays would be updated in real-time, meaning that the tanks never come out of hiding.

The system of blending a vehicle into the conflict zone in which it`s operating opens up a whole new world of battlefield camouflage possibilities. British military vehicles deployed in Afghan territory traditionally wear a desert sand scheme. This works well against the desert, but less successfully against more fertile areas of land - a problem that e-camouflage could work to overcome.

Beyond armoured vehicles, the same camouflage could also be painted onto warships and combat jets, too.
