Eid Al Adha marked in Murmansk
Baku, October 27 (AZERTAC). The world’s Muslims celebrated one of the most sacred holidays of the Islamic world, Eid Al Adha, also called Feast of the Sacrifice.
Eid Al Adha was also marked in Murmansk, a city in the extreme northwest of Russia and the world’s largest city north of the Arctic Circle. Animals were sacrificed on this sacred day in this city and the meat was distributed among the families in need.
Over 30,000 Muslims including Azerbaijanis, Tatars, Bashkirs, Kazakhs and Uzbeks live in Murmansk.
Over the last five years the number of Muslim population has grown by a third here.
The holiday, which is solemnly marked in all Muslim countries, is celebrated 70 days after the end of the month of Ramadan and usually lasts for four days. At the end of the Hajj (annual pilgrimage to Mecca), Muslims throughout the world celebrate the holiday of Eid Al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice). During the Hajj, Muslims remember and commemorate the trials and triumphs of the Prophet Abraham.
In 2011, Eid Al-Adha began on November 6, and lasted for three days.
