Fire hits historical Galatasaray University
Baku, January 23 (AZERTAC). A fire broke out at Galatasaray University in Istanbul on Tuesday evening.
The fire, which broke out in a wooden building in the university campus, was taken under control later on.
According to a statement released from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, 47 fire engines and 110 firefighters took part in the fire fighting.
After the support of 5 fireboats, they fire was taken under control.
Governor of Istanbul, Huseyin Avni Mutlu said: "The floor under the roof has been destroyed but other two floors are fine. This building was registered as a cultural and natural property which means that it is under protection."
Upon a question about how the fire might have occurred, Mutlu said a detailed investigation was being carried on and all the questions would find answers once things become clearer. He added such fires usually occur because of electrical or computer installations.
