First robotic system unveiled in Kyrgyzstan

The country's first robotic surgical system was unveiled today, September 10, at the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (KSMA), Kabar reported citing the Ministry of Health.
According to reports, plans are in place to begin performing robot-assisted surgeries at the KSMA's clinical facility in the near future.
Minister of Health Damir Osmonov personally tested the equipment's controls by sitting at the surgical console.
"Today, we see a robotic surgeon. "However, the robot does not perform the surgery autonomously; the surgeon is in control of everything. The doctor directs every movement and carries out the necessary procedures, from making the incision to suturing. At the same time, the system offers highly precise control and excellent visualization," the minister noted.
During a robot-assisted operation, the surgeon sits at a special console and controls miniature instruments inserted into the patient's body through small incisions. A camera transmits an image of the surgical site, which can be magnified 10 to 15 times.
"In some surgeries, it can be difficult for a doctor to get a clear view of the target area, especially when dealing with deep-seated structures. The robotic system allows for image magnification and the use of small instruments through minimal incisions. This expands the capabilities of minimally invasive surgery," said Damir Osmonov.
Crucially, the system does not make autonomous decisions or replace the physician. The surgeon retains responsibility for all key decisions during the operation, while the technology helps enhance movement precision and improve visualization of the surgical field.
According to the minister, another robotic surgical system is being purchased this year for the National Center for Maternal and Child Health. The tender process has already been completed, and delivery of the equipment is expected soon.
"This is a major achievement for our healthcare sector. We are taking a significant step toward modern surgical technologies and creating opportunities for our specialists to master new treatment methods," the minister remarked.
