FM OF AZERBAIJAN MEETS ICRC REPRESENTATIVES
Mary Wernts has noted that during work in the country there was a number of positive changes and that this development goes quickly. Having emphasized, that development of Azerbaijan differs from the development occurring in other former Soviet countries, Ms. Wernts said she was deeply impressed with quick alterations in the country.
Minister Mammadyarov has emphasized importance of elimination of problems of the transition period, strengthening of combat against corruption, perfection of education system. Quick liquidation of camps where the IDPs were temporarily settled is one of the major problems the government faces, he said.
Having emphasized, that Azerbaijan is interested in strengthening of its positions both as the leader in region and in constant development, the Minister has touched on the peace talks directed on settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He told about main principles of its settlement. Noting necessity of attracting of attention of the world community to the mentioned conflict, Mammadyarov said that in region integrating to the Europe space, the occupant policy of Armenia contradicts the international law.
Ms. Wernts said that from the beginning of its activity, ICRC has reached in Azerbaijan certain progress, and that the organization has opened in Barda a new office. She told about the done work, including the measures connected with missing persons. She has informed, that on the initiative of the European Union, has been created a Working Group connected with missing people, noting, that it is one of the basic questions in work of Committee.
M. Wernts expressed gratitude for support rendered by the Ministry of foreign Affairs in the period of her activity in country and presented the new representative of the Organization Martin Amacher.
Mr. Mammadyarov wished Mary Wernts success in further activity, noting that cooperation would be continued with the new representative.
