FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS WITH EU COUNTRIES AMBASSADORS
Commenting on the irregularities taken place in the course of the elections and preliminary report by the international election observation mission, the Minister - expressing the will of the Azerbaijani President and Government – advised that results in two districts and a number of precincts had been annulled and local governors dismissed for interfering with count as criminal cases were initiated against those accused of fraud.
The Ambassadors praised the measures taken under the relevant Presidential orders noting the legitimacy of the newly elected parliament is out of question. At the same time, they pointed out the importance of investigation into these irregularities expressing confidence it will be done in full compliance with the Azerbaijani law.
Touching upon the Azerbaijan-EU relationship, Minister Mammadyarov presented draft proposals for cooperation under the Plan of our country’s activities in the framework of the European neighborhood policy.
In response to concern the Ambassador of Greece expressed over the flights from Azerbaijan to Northern Cyprus, the Minister said the flights are used by individual businessmen in connection with the known UN and EU calls for elimination of economic and humanitarian isolation of the Turkish population of the Northern Cyprus.
The Ambassadors exchanged views on possibilities of cooperation to improve efficiency of gathering and communicating information covering those aspects of sociopolitical life in Azerbaijan which are of European Union’s interest.
The meeting participants also discussed a number of other issues of mutual interests.
