FRENCH FM CALLS ON NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT PARTIES TO COME TO ‘SOONEST’ AGREEMENT
Baku, 1 December (AZERTAC). French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has called on Azerbaijan and Armenia to come to agreement to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as soon as possible.
Addressing the 17th OSCE Ministerial Council on Tuesday, Kouchner said there was a strong basis to resolve conflicts over Nagorno-Karabakh and Transdniestria in eastern Moldova.
He said due to the efforts of the Minsk Group mediators and the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents “important” steps had been made to solve the conflict.
"We hope progress will be achieved in Athens too and the conflict will be solved soon,” he said. Kouchner called on foreign ministers of both countries to reach an agreement on resolution of the conflict and “set it out in paper."
Touching upon Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s proposal on creating a European security system, the minister said his country was of the first supporters of the proposal.
