Baku, March 31, AZERTAC
A group of scientists from University of Nice Sophia Antipolis visited Guba Genocide Memorial Complex and the mass graveyard. They were informed Guba mass burial site caused by the genocide committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis was discovered on April 1, 2007. Later, employees of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences conducted extensive researches which revealed that the graveyard related to the genocide committed in 1918 by Armenians against civilians.
Tens of thousands of Muslims as well as local Jews were killed by joint Armenian and Bolshevik forces in Baku and the regions, including Guba, Shamakhi, Goychay, Karabakh and Lankaran regions between March and September 1918. Nearly 167 villages were destroyed in Guba region alone.
The Complex was created by the support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation and opened on September 18, 2013.
