HUMAN RIGHTS IN FOCUS
Aiming at execution of the said recommendations was taken a number of measures for human rights protection, including protection of rights of the convicted, improvement conditions of their detention.
Delegation of the European Committee of human rights protection recently visited the Republic where familiarized with the state of fulfillment of the recommendations, had been at the places of confinement, met with the prisoners at the penetration institutions, as well as met the heads of ministry of justice and other state bodies.
Receiving the guests, minister of justice Fikret Mammadov updated them on the reforms aimed at ensuring the human rights and humanization of punitive policy in Azerbaijan Republic, adhering to universal democratic values, noted the measures conducted in the field of defense of the rights of the convicted and improvement of activity of penitentiary system, underlining that requirements of the Convention for prevention of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment was constantly in the focus, responded to their questions.
The guests, expressed gratitude for conditions created for their activity, highly assessed the work done in the Republic, in particular, by the ministry of justice, in the field of executing the Committee’s recommendations, interested in additional measures in protection of rights of the convicted, stressed satisfaction for provided information.
Deputy justice minister, chief of the department on court decision execution of the Ministry Aydin Gasimov attended the meeting.
