IAP General Counsel visits Azerbaijan
Baku, January 27 (AZERTAC). General Counsel of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) Elizabeth Howe has visited Azerbaijan to discuss cooperation between the county and the organization.
Elizabeth Howe first visited the Alley of Honors to lay a wreath at the tomb of national leader, founder and architect of modern Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev. She also put flowers at the grave of prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva. The IAP General Counsel also visited the Alley of Martyrs to pay respect to Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country’s independence and territorial integrity. She laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument here.
She also viewed the Heydar Aliyev Center.
The IAP General Counsel then had a meeting with Azerbaijan`s Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov at the Prosecutor General`s Office.
Garalov highlighted reforms carried out in Azerbaijan under President Ilham Aliyev to improve the country`s legal system. He spoke of the application of information and communication technologies, and anti-corruption measures, saying the country’s was moving forward in the yearly report of the Transparency International.
The Prosecutor General also highlighted the activities of “ASAN Xidmet” which was created at the State Agency for Public Services and Social Innovation.
Howe hailed cooperation between the International Association of Prosecutors and Azerbaijan as close, and praised the country’s contribution to the work of the organization.
She lauded the Azerbaijani government`s work to combat corruption, and noted the importance of holding regional events jointly with IAP on this front.
Howe also visited the new office building of the Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General.
She then met chairman of the Anti-Corruption Department, member of IAP Kamran Aliyev, as well as young members of the International Association of Prosecutors.
The IAP General Counsel also met Azerbaijani Minister of Justice, Senator and honorary member of IPA Fikrat Mammadov.
The Minister highlighted justice reforms in Azerbaijan.
Howe also met chairman of Azerbaijan's Supreme Court Ramiz Rzayev to discuss the implementation of legal and justice reforms.
The IAP General Counsel visited "ASAN Xidmet" Center No 3 of the State Agency for Public Services and Social Innovation on the last day of her visit.
