Azerbaijan division of American humanitarian organization IREX in collaboration with NGO “For Sustainable Development” organize on March 18 the internet-conference entitled “Education for Sustainable Development”. OSCE office representative David Swalley and leading officer of Research Institute of Fish Industry of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, president of the NGO “For Sustainable Development” Fikrat Jafarov responded to journalists’ questions.

IREX’s web site where the forum will take place contains the NGO-developed working program of implementation of the sustainable development in Azerbaijan. The Forum participants have the opportunity to submit their proposals and comments on the program’s text.

Fikrat Jafarov explained that the idea of sustainable development (SD) implies society development providing as equal starting conditions as possible for representatives of the present and next generations to show their faculties and meet their living needs, as well as economic development harmonized with principles of ecological security and social justice. The so-called Rio Declaration stipulates 27 principles of the sustainable development, which mainly focuses on: development of the society considering the interests of the present and next generations, care for human being, right for healthy life in harmony with the nature, protection of soil fertility, careful exploitation of animate nature resources, protection of waters, application of renewable energy, cooperation of states and nations to eliminate poverty etc. the sustainable development pursues concrete goals such as ecologization of industry and agriculture.
