Israel’s Elbit Systems successfully concludes test flights
Baku. January 17 (AZERTAC).Elbit Systems has successfully concluded test flights with the system for protecting civilian aircraft against shoulder-mounted missiles.
Elbit Systems announced today that its C-MUSIC system, intended for defending civilian aircraft against missiles, has underwent a successful series of test flights carried out onboard a Boeing 707 aircraft.
The DIRCM defense technology provides protection for a variety of airborne platforms against shoulder-mounted missiles by diverting them from their trajectories through the use of a laser beam. The capability was originally developed for military usage, and due to the increasing threat to civilian aircraft, Elbit also developed a parallel system for civilian use.
Among other things, Elbit has developed the MUSIC® system for protecting helicopters and small to medium aircraft, J-MUSIC for protecting medium and large jet aircraft and C-MUSIC for defending large jet aircraft, specifically adapted for passenger and cargo aircraft in the world of civil aviation.
Shoulder-mounted missiles are a cheap, accessible and easy-to-operate solution for terror and guerilla organizations around the world, and their distribution is increasing. Shoulder-mounted missiles are responsible for most of the events in which aircraft were shot down around the world in the past 30 years.
