Japan, India to cooperate on coronavirus

The Prime Ministers of Japan and India have confirmed they will cooperate to overcome the coronavirus pandemic, according to NHK WORLD-JAPAN.
Japanese leader Suga Yoshihide spoke with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi by telephone on Monday.
Suga planned to visit India from late April but his trip was canceled so he can focus on coronavirus countermeasures in Japan.
In the phone talks, Suga told Modi he hopes India's infection situation will quickly improve.
To realize a free and open Indo-Pacific region, they confirmed the importance of cooperation among the two countries, plus the United States and Australia.
They also agreed to continue working together to create an international order based on the rule of law.
Suga expressed serious concern over China's unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the East and South China seas and a new law that allows its coast guard to use weapons.
Suga also said he wants to further advance cooperation in areas such as cybersecurity, digitalization, and decarbonization.
They also agreed to realize Suga's visit to India at an appropriate time for both sides, while keeping an eye on the pandemic.
