Joint exercise „Namejs” to test defence capabilities of Armed Forces
Baku, May 19 (AZERTAC). From May 19 to 27 National Armed Force’s joint exercise “Namejs” will take place in Latvia and territorial waters. More than 2200 soldiers from both regular force and National Guard units will participate in the exercise.
“As Chief of Defence, I am pleased that in May, after more than two years of preparation, the biggest joint exercise for the Armed Forces, “Namejs 2014” will take place in the whole country,” says Lieutenant General Raimonds Graube. “This will be one of the few exercises where the ability of the Armed Forces to work and implement national defence tasks in a joint level — from a company to the Joint Headquarters — will be tested.”
“Namejs” is the brigade level Command Post Exercise which includes also the Maritime Tactical Group and the battalion level Field Training Exercise. Therefore “Namejs” emphasizes the importance of both individual and joint readiness in order to carry out the tasks. These will the largest national joint military exercise since the Restoration of Independence of Republic of Latvia.
“Objective of the training is the national defence organization and coordination of the task fulfilment of the various forces. Our task is not only to test the strengths of our Armed Forces today, but also to assess our defence capabilities and to set further goals. After the training, conclusions will be made that will influence the general development of the Armed Forces, identify the areas that require additional consideration and training, and help to make decisions in the highest level later,” indicates Lieutenant General Raimonds Graube.
The exercise will consist of Command Post Exercise and Field Tactical Exercise, which will be carried out on May 24 and May 25 mainly in Ādaži Training area. Maritime Tactical Group Exercise will take place near Liepāja.
