Journey to the Center of a Volcano
Baku, May 2 (AZERTAC). Iceland is known as the land of fire and ice and recognized for its notorious volcanoes that have shown their muscle since the formation of the island. The beauty, power and mystery of volcanoes have been a fascination for thousands of years and attract visitors from around the globe wanting just to sneak a peek at these natural wonders.
For many of us, a distant glance will suffice, but for the true volcano lover or adventurous at heart, there is a unique tour that takes you literally to the center of a dormant volcano.
Starting June 15th through July 31st, 2012 visitors to Iceland can embark on a five hour tour through the top crater of Thrihnukagigur, located approximately 25 minutes from Reykjavik.
Since Thrihnukagigur has not erupted for over 4.000 years and shows no signs of activity, this is the only volcano on earth where it’s safe to explore a magma chamber from the inside.
This very special tour offers pick-up and drop-off at your hotel in Reykjavik, helmets, all safety gear, and harnesses. After a short hike to the creator, an open air elevator system will transport small groups with experienced guides over 400 feet deep to the bottom of a magma chamber, once filled with steaming hot lava.
Icelandair offers service to Iceland from Boston, New York-JFK, Seattle, and Denver and seasonal service from Washington, D.C., Minneapolis - St. Paul, Orlando Sanford, Halifax and Toronto. Connections through Icelandair’s hub at Keflavik International Airport are available to over 20 destinations in Scandinavia, the U.K. and Continental Europe. Only Icelandair allows passengers to stopover in Iceland at no additional airfare.
