JUDICIAL SYSTEM OF AZERBAIJAN DISCUSSED AT “ROUNDTABLE”
A “roundtable” meeting to discuss the judicial system of Azerbaijan was held Thursday within the framework of the visit of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers “AGO” Monitoring Group to Azerbaijan,. The event was attended by members of the AGO group, Fikrat Mammadov, Azerbaijani Minister of Justice, Farhad Abdullayev, chairman of Azerbaijan Constitutional Court, Ramiz Rzayev, chairman of the Supreme Court, Fuad Alasgarov, head of Presidential Office’s department for working with law-enforcement bodies, Zakir Garalov, Prosecutor General, Azer Tagiyev, chairman of the Bar and Elmira Suleymanova, human rights commissioner.
The event started with opening remarks of Justice Minister Fikret Mammadov. He briefed the participants on the ongoing reforms in Azerbaijan aimed to improve the judicial system in the country, build the capacity of judges, study and apply best practices related to norms and principles of international law, including the case law of the European Court of Human Rights.

The speakers exchanged views on the effectiveness of courts’ activities, independence, professionalism and social protection of judges, execution of judgments and other issues.
