‘Kazakhstan is interested in transportation of its goods by Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway’
Baku, December 12 (AZERTAC). Kazakhstan is interested in transportation of its goods by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, Kazakh Ambassador to Azerbaijan Amangeldy Zhumabayev told journalists.
He noted that Kazakh oil, gas and grain may be transported via this railway.
“The Caucasus corridor is very important for Kazakhstan, as a landlocked country,” the diplomat added.
It is expected that the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, one of the most important parts of the Caspian transit corridor, will be completed in 2014.
At the first stage the railway will be able to carry one million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo. In the future the capacity of the BTK will increase to three million passengers and 20 million tons of cargo.
The total length of BTK is 826 kilometres (about 513 miles). After commissioning of the railway trade between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey will increase significantly, the total volume will exceed $10 billion per year.
