Kinect fastest selling consumer device ever
Baku, March 10 (AZERTAC). The Guinness Book of world records has claimed that the Kinect is the fastest selling consumer electronics device ever, beating popular devices such as the Iphone and Ipad.
Microsoft sold an average of 133,333 Kinects a day, resulting in a whopping eight million units sold within its first 60 days, firmly securing the world record.
Guinness World Records said that these figures are significantly higher than similar launch figures for the Iphone and Ipad, both of which previously had claimed the crown as the fastest selling consumer device.
The Kinect also sold much faster than Nintendo`s Wii, which has lost some ground to the Kinect recently. However, the Wii still remains a popular choice for families and carries a lower price tag than the Vole`s Kinect and Xbox 360.
While Microsoft initially lost out to the Wii many years ago, it appears that it was wise to take its time to develop a rival motion capture product that addresses the limitations inherent in Nintendo`s device. The ability to fully capture the entire body is clearly a major selling point to gamers, who are by now fed up with flinging their Wiimotes into their walls.
Microsoft`s achievement will feature in the next version of the Guinness World Records Gamer`s Edition in 2012.
