KOSOVO CANNOT SERVE AS PRECEDENT FOR SETTLEMENT OF POST-SOVIET CONFLICTS
As informed earlier, the parliamentary delegation of Azerbaijan on 24-29 May took part in spring session of Parliamentary Assembly of NATO.
Head of the delegation, first vice-speaker of Milli Majlis, chairman of the standing committee on defense and security Ziyafet Askerov on 31 May briefed on the results of visit.
He noted, that in the frame of session taken place in Portugal, were held meetings of committees on the politics, safety and defense, the control over civil criteria of safety. The greatest discussion caused the question connected with plans of creation of the USA air defense system in Poland and Czech Republic.
In spite of the fact that the Russian representative seriously protested against placement of similar system in Europe, the American experts have tried to prove it that it is stipulated not for attack, but for protection of continent. On this question, also the presidents of Russia and the USA are expected to meet.
Other problem which caused serious discussions, was connected with the settlement of situation in Kosovo. It is known, that some Armenian and pro-Armenian mass media write, that the Kosovo variant can be comprehensible to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
During discussions, the majority of the European deputies have stated, that Nagorno Karabakh is territory of Azerbaijan, and that the variant of settlement of the Kosovo problem cannot be an example for settlement of the frozen conflicts on the post-Soviet space.
