L ‘Opinion publishes article on 20th anniversary of establishment of Azerbaijan-Morocco diplomatic ties
Baku, August 24 (AZERTAC). Morocco-based L ‘Opinion newspaper has published an article on the 20th anniversary of establishment of Azerbaijan-Morocco diplomatic ties.
The author of the article, secretary-general of the Morocco-Azerbaijan Friendship Society, Mahammad Fagiri says August 25, 1992 marks an important event in the history of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Morocco - diplomatic ties were established on this day. He says after restoration of its independence Azerbaijan attached great importance to strengthening and deepening relations with Arab states, including Morocco.
The author recalls national leader Heydar Aliyev`s meeting with former King of Morocco Hassan II in 1994 in Casablanca on the sidelines of the OIC summit. Fagiri attributes today`s level of Azerbaijan-Morocco relations to that historical meeting. “Today President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and King Mohammed VI of Morocco successfully continue the traditions founded by national leader Heydar Aliyev and King Hassan II.”
The article also features recent political and economic accomplishments in Azerbaijan. The author says Azerbaijan has become a powerful country not in the region, but also the entire world. He goes on to say that Azerbaijan ensures its food security due to its domestic resources. “The GDP in Azerbaijan grew by 14 percent in 2003-2011. The country`s gas reserves are estimated at 2.2 trillion cubic meters. Oil production is estimated to reach 50-55 million tones, while gas production 30 billion cubic meters. The poverty level dropped to 7 percent from 49 percent in 2003.”
The author also touches upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying official Yerevan does not honor resolutions and other documents adopted by international organizations such as UN, OIC on unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. “But the Azerbaijani leadership makes great efforts to solve the problem.”
The article also says Azerbaijan and Morocco enjoy high-level political relations and mutual support within international organizations. “Thirteen agreements have been signed between the two countries so far and about 20 documents are being prepared to be inked.”
The author says in the article that both countries` authorities are interested that the level of bilateral economic cooperation reaches the one of political ties.
Fagiri also writes about charitable works carried out by the Azerbaijani embassy in Rabat. He says in the coming days the embassy will organize an event on the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Morocco.
