Latvia has sixth fastest internet in world
Baku, June 30 (AZERTAC). Latvia has the sixth fastest Internet in the world, according to the latest report by the IT company Akamai Technologies.
In Latvia, the average Internet speed was 12 megabits per second (Mbps) in the first quarter. Compared to the previous quarter, Internet speed in Latvia has increased 15 percent whilst compared to the first quarter of 2013, it has increased 26 percent.
According to the report, South Korea has the world's fastest average Internet speed - 23.6 Mbps, the average Internet speed in Japan is 14.6 Mbps, 13.3 Mbps in Hong Kong, 12.7 Mbps in Switzerland, and 12.4 Mbps in the Netherlands.
Latvia is in sixth place, followed by Sweden with the average Internet speed at 11.6 Mbps, Czech Republic - 11.2 Mbps, Finland and Ireland - 10.7 Mbps.
The global average Internet speed was 3.9 Mbps in the first quarter - 1.8 percent faster than in the previous quarter and 24 percent faster than in the first quarter of 2013.
Akamai said it is likely that the global average connection speed would finally hit the 4 Mpbs broadband threshold in the second quarter.
Akamai said that globally, a total of 98 regions it covered saw average internet speeds increase in the first quarter.
