Director of Shamakha astrophysical observatory, Doctor of physics and mathematics sciences Ayyub Guliyev informed AzerTAj about this rare phenomenon taking place once each thousand years. He said that these two planets were in the nearest distance from each other on August 27 and this was observed in many countries at 13:51 min 14 sec by local time. The planet of Mars was in the nearest point of its orbit against the Sun, while the Earth on the contrary was in the farthest point of its orbit against the Sun. At that moment the distance between them was equal to 55 million 758 thousand kilometers. The increase in sparkling was clearly observed in the sky of the Mars planet. The approach of the two planets was observed in the whole world including Shamakha observatory.

The observation was held by four telescopes. Fortunately the weather was clear and cloudless. Modern cameras, computers, light receivers were attracted to this work. In the result, a lot of observatory material was obtained. These materials will be analyzed for a few months and primary scientific results will be specified.

That day Mars was better seen in Germany. Astronomers, knowing this beforehand, preferred to observe the planet from this country.

Approach of the Mars and the Earth will not cause any extreme situation, i.e. there will not be any danger for life, any cataclysm. There is no scientific base for it. This can only serve for better examination of Mars. It is known that this planet is very much similar to the Earth; its diameter is 2 times while mass is 10 times less. Mars has an atmosphere. However atmospheres of the Earth and Mars differ. Science knows that there is carbon gas and nitrogen in the atmosphere of Mars. The relief of the planet is very complex. There are very high mountains there - of 18, even 25 kilometers height. “The red planet” can be observed well on August 29-30.

Red color of the planet is caused by chemical and physical features of its surface.

The materials obtained in the Shamakha astrophysical observatory as a result of observations will be sent to other world observatories by Internet. Observation materials of all observatories will be compared and analyzed.

It is interesting that the approach of Mars to the Earth still continues. This process will go on till the middle of September. Then the distance between the planets will be the same as previously.
