MATCH BETWEEN TURKEY AND ENGLAND SPOTLIGHTED
A match taken place on 11 October between Turkey and England aroused a keen interest all over the world. In accordance with the joint agreement between National Football Federations of England and Turkey, UEFA, for reasons of security, British supporters were barred from coming to the match. Policemen were on duty at the airport in order not to let English fans arrive in Turkey. 45 supporters from the Great Britain were detained in the Istanbul airport and returned.
55-thousand stadium after Sukru Sarajoglu was ringed by the 5-thousadn police cordon and fans were allowed in the stadium after a serious check-up.
The match was aired on TV channels of 51 countries. Two of them were Chinese. TV channels from Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam and India telecasted from Turkey for the first time. Besides, 400 media representatives arrived in Turkey. The match was watched by Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, deputies, and Government members.
