MEETING AT MILLI MAJLIS
Warmly greeting the guests, Murtuz Alasgarov noted that Greece was among the first to recognize independence of Azerbaijan that promoted establishment of friendly relations between the two countries. In this connection, the speaker pointed to the important role of the joint commission. According to him, this visit of the Greek President will contribute to further development of the links. Mr. M. Alasgarov also touched upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, and fair stance of Azerbaijan in the matter.
President of the Republic of Greece Konstantinos Stefanopoulos noted that the goal of the large Greek delegation to Azerbaijan is to promote further development of the relations between the two countries. Greece is a member of the European Union, the Council of Europe and other international organizations, and is aspire to develop its links with the countries integrating into Europe and help them enter the European Union.
The distinguished guest as well that he is well aware of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict stressing that his country stands for resolution of all problems including this one in the framework of the international legal norms.
Then, President Konstantinos Stefanopoulos came to the monument to our nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev erected at the building of the Milli Majlis. Speaker Murtuz Alasgarov told in detail about the time of the outstanding son of Azerbaijan to power in 1993 and his presiding in the parliament.
