MEETING OF PROTEST IN MARNEULI
As a result of the operation, carried out by the Interior Ministry o Georgia together with the Interior Department of Tbilisi, the hostage has been lately released. For 40 days the kidnappers have kept the teenager confined to the steam-heating radiator. The culprits have demanded ransom from the parents. After consultations with law-enforcement officers, the kidnappers have been paid the demanded amount and the operation has been successfully completed. Initially, 4 criminals have been arrested. The fifth kidnapper, teenager’s countryman, police officer Merab Shubitidze, deputy chairman of the Sentence Service Department, has been detained at work place. Before that, he worked as a chief of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Marneuli Police Department. Fifteen thousand US dollars has been found in the Shubetidze’s safe and 800 dollars - in his pocket.
Marneuli inhabitants have held a protest meeting against this act in the province center, and condemned inhuman actions of Merab Shubitidze and called on law-enforcement bodies to put an end to such facts.
