Microsoft Windows turns 25 years old
Baku, November 22 (AZERTAC). The world`s most popular OS- Windows celebrated its 25th anniversary last Saturday. Presentation of a graphical environment, running from MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) took place on November 20, 1985. It was Microsoft`s first attempt to develop a GUI (Graphical User Interface) for DOS with support for multitasking, Onliner reports.
Work on Windows under the Project Interface Manager was launched in 1981. Two years later, a graphical environment was officially introduced and other two years needed to release it for sale.
In the process of creating Windows 1.0, developers had to finalize the product repeatedly to avoid being accused of copying the operating system interface Mac System for the Macintosh.
Experts considered the project pessimistic, as its launch protracted and many had doubts that Windows 1.0 will appear.
In spite of this, in late autumn the novelty was unveiled. At least 256 KB of RAM was required to download Windows 1.0. Graphical environment had its own drivers for mice, keyboards, printers and video adapters. The user could get access to applications such as clock, calculator, calendar, Paint, game Reversi. In this case window of a performed program could not be placed on top of other windows.
For all of this Microsoft asked for just $ 99.
Currently operating system Microsoft is installed for some 90 percent of computers worldwide.
