Migrants – pros and cons
Baku, December 20 (AZERTAC). December 18 is the International Day of Migrants. This holiday was introduced by the UN Security Council, because the problem of migration and problems of migrants has become very acute in the 21st century.
At present, the total number of migrants in the world is already counted in tens of millions. According to experts` estimates, every 35th person in the world is a migrant.
Local residents quite often have no special liking for migrants, although migrants often do the work that local residents, especially in large cities, dislike to do themselves, like sweeping the streets or working as hands at construction sites. However, at present, it is hardly possible to stop or even to lessen the torrent of migrants.
“The number of migrants is constantly growing all over the world,” Vice President of Russian foundation “Migration 21st Century” Natalya Vlasova says. “The reason is that the population of developing countries is currently growing, while the population of developed countries is decreasing.”
“The problem of migration and problems of migrants are becoming more and more acute,” Ms. Vlasova says. “The entire world is already involved in this process. In such a situation, governments should adopt laws that would create beneficial conditions both for the country that adopts migrants and for the country from which these migrants come.”
In 1990, the UN General Assembly adopted an international convention on defending the rights of migrants and members of their families. Besides, several European countries have worked out laws to this end of their own. Still, it would have been too early to say that all the problems that have to do with migration have already been solved.
