Missing plane found in Mexico with 14 dead
Baku, October 17 (AZERTAC). The wreckage of a plane carrying 14 people that had been missing for two days in northwest Mexico has been found with all occupants confirmed dead.
"Unfortunately there are no survivors," Transport Minister Gerardo Ruiz Esparza said in his Twitter account.
The wreckage of the aircraft, a single-engine Cessna 208-B model, was spotted from the air in the mountains of La Giganta, 26km west of Loreto, the airport in the state of Baja California Sur from which the plane took off early on Monday.
The plane, which had been due to land 30 minutes later in Ciudad Constitucion and had enough fuel for a two-hour flight, went missing mid-flight.
The search was launched two hours after take-off, although it had to be suspended for a few hours on Monday due to bad weather caused in the area by tropical storms Octave and Priscille.
The plane, operated by regional commercial airline Guerrero, was carrying 13 passengers and the pilot at the time of the crash.
Tropical Storm Octave brought heavy rain to Baja California Sur on Monday and the eye of the storm made landfall early ib Tuesday local time.5
The daily Reforma reported that the pilot may have changed the route due to the bad weather, but there were no immediate reports about the cause of the crash.
