MM SPEAKER MEETS WITH EU TROIKA DELEGATION
Head of the Parliament said integration into Europe is one of the major directions of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. Azerbaijan is going to develop cooperation with EU within the framework of the New Neighborhood Policy. To this end, the negotiations are proceeding to prepare a plan of actions. The program highlights the economic relations. According to O. Asadov, Azerbaijan wants the benefits for Georgia and Moldova to be applied to Azerbaijan as well.
Ogtay Asadov pinpointed $400 million EU assistance to Azerbaijan and positively assessed the collaboration dealing with TACIS, TRACECA, INOGATE and Food Program. MM speaker said Baku is keen on developing ties with EU and wants to take an active part in the European energy security program. He felt regret that the European Commission shrugged off Azerbaijan’s interests towards some political issues, in particular, Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Then, Ogtay Asadov told of the prospects of interparliamentary relations and upcoming parliamentary re-elections in Azerbaijan. He expressed confidence that the elections will be fair and transparent.
H. Winkler expressed his satisfaction with the rapid development of Baku and noted that national values, economic development play a key role in enhancing relations with EU.
Then, the meeting focused on other issues of mutual interest.
Deputy MM chairman Valeh Alasgarov and Austrian ambassador accredited to Azerbaijan Mrs. Heidemaria Gurer were present at the meeting.
