MM SPEAKER MEETS WITH U.S. AMBASSADOR

MM speaker noted that USA was one of the countries that recognized sovereignty of Azerbaijan. According to him, bilateral ties began developing rapidly after establishment of diplomatic relations. Efforts of the Heads of States pushed the bilateral relations to the level of strategic cooperation. President Ilham Aliyev attaches a great importance to the development of these ties. President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to the United States in April this year, and agreements reached have strengthened and expanded the relationship. O. Asadov said Azerbaijan appreciates that fact that the United States support Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzerum gas pipelines and other large-scale projects.
Speaker of the Parliament said interparliamentary ties between the two nations develop very well, stressing working groups created in the Milli Majlis and US Congress play a special role in it.
MM chairman wished Anne Derse every success in her future activities as the ambassador.
Ambassador expressed her satisfaction with the meetings held in Azerbaijan. Diplomat said that US Congress is keen on building strong, reliable inter-parliamentary relations. These relations, according to her, are one of the conditions for development of democracy. Anne Derse highly appreciated protection of human rights in Azerbaijan as well as democratic development.
Then, the meeting focused on other issues of mutual interest.
