Mobile phone use during pregnancy “ups child`s risk of behavioral problems”
Baku, December 8 (AZERTAC). Children are more likely to suffer from behavioral problems if their mothers used mobile phones during pregnancy, according to a new study.
Research by the University of California Los Angeles and the University of Southern California, both in the US, found the chance of children having problems is even higher if they begin using mobiles themselves before the age of seven.
Children exposed to mobile phones while in the womb and in early life were 50 per cent more likely to have behavioral problems than those who were not, the study of 29,000 youngsters revealed.
American scientists found a 30 per cent greater chance of behavioral difficulties at the age of seven in babies exposed to mobile phones in the womb. The study showed that those exposed regularly before birth and in early childhood were 50 per cent more likely to have behavioral problems at the age of seven than those never exposed before and after birth.
Their study was published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. The authors write, “Although it is premature to interpret these results as causal, we are concerned early exposure to cell phones could carry a risk, which, if real, would be of public health concern given the widespread use of this technology”.
