Mommy`s little secret
Baku, December 4 (AZERTAC). An 18-year-old college student in Chengdu, Sichuan Province was sent to a hospital on November 20 by two of her roommates after she gave birth to a baby girl in a restroom in secret and then attempted to hide the newborn in a suitcase.
Around 1 pm, a taxi rushed to the Sichuan provincial hospital emergency room where a young woman with bloodstained pants stepped out with two other women.
When medical workers began to help the bleeding woman onto a stretcher, one of the women shouted "there`s a person in the trunk."
Medical workers opened it and found a black suitcase with a baby girl inside. After emergency treatment, where doctors removed the umbilical cord wrapped around the infant`s neck, she cried out.
"Why did you put the baby in the suitcase?" "It is so inhumane, she could have suffocated!"
As onlookers began criticizing the women, one explained that they are students at a nearby college, and around 12 am 18-year-old Xiaowei went into their dormitory restroom complaining of stomach pains.
After several minutes, roommates said they heard an infant crying. When dorm mates entered the restroom, they found Xiaowei had given birth. They were shocked and afraid that someone would find out, which inspired packing the baby away in a suitcase.
Liu Ming, an employee at the school, said that neither the college nor her roommates knew freshman Xiaowei was pregnant.
After examination, doctors found the baby was born fully developed and healthy. "The baby`s condition is stable, but being in such a confined space for some time might have caused damage to her body.
"The college has informed Xiaowei`s parents, and we sent someone to pick them up," Liu said. The college refuses to release the student`s name.
