MONUMENT OF HEYDAR ALIYEV OPENED IN BUCHAREST
Residents of city, representatives of the Azerbaijan Diaspora and Turkey cordially greeted President Ilham Aliyev.
Opening the ceremony, member of Romania’s Senate, chairman of the Romania-Azerbaijan Friendship Society Ioan Top de Popa gave detailed information on historical contributions of the founder of independent Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev in establishment and strengthening of relations, in bringing closer the two peoples.
President of Romania Ion Iliescu and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev made speech.
President Ion Iliescu characterized President Heydar Aliyev as a patriot of his country and nation, outstanding politician and historical personality. He recalled his meetings with Heydar Aliyev and stressed importance of these meetings in strengthening of bilateral relations, estimated President Ilham Aliyev’s current visit logic continuation of his policy.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude to the people of Romania, President of the country Ion Iliescu for erection of Heydar Aliyev’s monument in Bucharest. “In the last ten years, Azerbaijan has turned to a dynamically developed country and holds a worthy place among the international community, which was possible thanks to Heydar Aliyev’s foresighted policy and tireless efforts”, President of Azerbaijan said.
Among the Eastern European countries, the embassy of Azerbaijan was opened for the first time just in Romania, President Ilham Aliyev said, adding that this is embodiment of the friendly relations established by Heydar Aliyev and Ion Iliescu.
President Ilham Aliyev and president Ion Iliesu unveiled the monument of Heydar Aliyev and laid a wreath on its foot.
